Celebrity Guitar Picks Auctioned For Charity

A group of musicians have donated their guitar plectrums to a very special celebrity charity auction.

The auction includes guitar picks donated by stars such as Mark Ronson, Paul Weller, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Duran Duran, Emmylou Harris, James Blunt, Dave Stewart, Paramore, Jamie Cullum, Razorlight and many more.

The auction will benefit two very important charities – Trekstock, which supports young people with cancer, and LIFEbeat, which educates young people about HIV/AIDS prevention.

Actor, comedian, and long-time AIDS Walk supporter Hal Sparks (Queer as Folk), and CBS 2’s Kristine Johnson (co-anchor of CBS 2 News at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. weekdays) will join hundreds of key supporters, including corporate and community leaders as well as top fundraisers, to kick off the 25th annual AIDS Walk New York (AWNY), to be held in Central Park on May 16.

Sparks and Johnson will speak at this inspiring and entertaining evening, which will honor the AIDS Walk’s most dedicated participants, donors, volunteers, and sponsors.

Since 1986, AIDS Walk New York has raised more than $105 million for HIV programs and services in the tri-state area, and has grown into the largest AIDS fundraising event in the world.

The countdown to Christmas has begun, and celebrities are doing their best to make holiday shopping easy this year. Several charity auctions have already kicked off to raise money for good causes, including one that may be eBay’s largest sale of celebrity items… ever!

The BID 2 BEAT AIDS online auction will open on December 1, World AIDS Day, and will feature over 1000 specially signed items, ranging from posters to iPods. The annual auction will raise money for LIFEbeat, the music industry’s AIDS fundraising and service charity, and in the past has raised up to $175,000.

The array of memorabilia up for sale this year is simply colossal, with perhaps the most interesting items being a series of “Lend a Hand to LIFEbeat” cards that feature the handprints of over 100 celebrities.
