Bill Clinton is today leading the Clinton Foundation’s inaugural Health Matters: Activating Wellness in Every Generation conference.

The event will bring together more than 200 stakeholders from the worlds of health care, public policy, business, education, individual wellness, and sports to identify strategies to promote and improve individual healthy lifestyles in the home, the community, and the workplace. The conference is being held at the Renaissance Esmeralda Indian Wells Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, CA.

Health Matters immediately precedes the Humana Challenge PGA TOUR event in partnership with the William J. Clinton Foundation, formerly the Bob Hope Classic. The conference highlights the tournament’s commitment to health and well-being, and builds on the work of the Clinton Foundation, which has a mission to improve global health, strengthen economies, protect the environment, and promote healthier childhoods through its Alliance for a Healthier Generation. The Convening Partner of the conference is the Desert Regional Medical Center.

The William J. Clinton Foundation has announced broad accomplishments in 2011 in the areas of economic opportunity, childhood obesity, emergency relief and long-term recovery, global health and nutrition, and climate and energy.

Chelsea Clinton paid a visit to a school in Brooklyn last week to congratulate students and staff for their work with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to develop healthier habits such as practicing yoga and eating more fruits and vegetables.

Clinton, who is on the board of the Clinton Foundation, visited Public School 123 made the visit to recognize the school’s work in fighting obesity in children.

Bill Clinton helped create the Alliance for a Healthier Generation in conjunction with the American Heart Association in 2005. The goal of the Alliance is to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity by 2015, and to empower kids nationwide to make healthy lifestyle choices.

President Bill Clinton – founder of the William J. Clinton Foundation and 42nd President of the United States – actor and director Ben Stiller, and gallerist and art dealer David Zwirner have announced that they will co-chair an exclusive fundraising event on Friday, September 23rd in New York to benefit The Stiller Foundation.

The Stiller Foundation, founded by Ben Stiller in 2010, has been focusing efforts on building schools in Haiti where, according to a report from the United Nations, the January 2010 earthquake damaged or destroyed 8,000 schools that served 1.8 million children in and around the capital of Port-au-Prince alone. All of the schools on the western side of the city were totally destroyed, while 40% in the south were severely damaged.

President Clinton launched the Clinton Foundation Haiti Fund in 2010 and joined President George W. Bush in creating the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. He serves as the United Nations Special Envoy and co-chair of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission.

Beyoncé Confirms Gadhafi Money Went To Charity

Beyoncé has confirmed that the money she made for a performance for Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi in 2009 was donated to charity.

Following Nelly Furtado’s announcement that she is donating the $1 million paid for a similar performance to charity, other stars such as Beyoncé came under the spotlight to do the same.

Sean Penn And Bill Clinton Join Forces in Haiti

In a place that actor-activist Sean Penn describes as a “disaster beyond anyone’s experience, including the aid workers,” and where “the only legitimate leadership is fractured” due to the physical devastation caused by an earthquake in January of this year, there are those – besides Penn and his J/P Haitian Relief Organization (JPHRO) – who remain engaged in Haiti’s long and arduous recovery.

Former US president, Bill Clinton – who is a UN Special Envoy for Haiti – and his William J. Clinton Foundation will provide a half-million dollars for the camp run by JPHRO.

“Rebuilding housing for more than 1 million people displaced by the earthquake will take time, as teams on the ground continue to clear rubble and build infrastructure, including water and sanitation systems,” said Clinton in a press release. “In the interim, our commitment to the camp will ensure the 55,000 people living there, including many children, can access health care, education, and job training services until families are able to move into more permanent homes.”

For his 64th birthday, former US president Bill Clinton has posted his birthday wish on Causes.com, a website created as a platform to help people raise money for their favorite charities.

Clinton’s wish is to raise money through donations made to his Clinton Foundation for a lengthy list of programs aimed at: reducing malnutrition of Colombian students by 10 percent, providing tools to 20,000 Malawian farmers, supporting small business in underserved US communities, creating healthier environments in 10,000 US schools, reducing lighting energy use by up to 70 percent in major cities, and to generally improve lives around the world.

Chelsea Clinton Spins Her Wheels For Haiti

Chelsea Clinton has joined the very generous and growing list of celebrities who are donating their time to help the people of Haiti after the recent catastrophic quake that, at last count, killed over 150,000 people.

Chelsea, in partnership with SoulCycle in New York City, organized a 90-minute spin class in which participants donated anywhere from $100 to $1,500 to attend the event. The charity spin class hosted by Ms. Clinton generated $66,810 in which 100% of the proceeds will go to Haiti via the Clinton Foundation.

Chelsea came up with the idea of the spin class for Haiti when she and her dad, former President Bill Clinton, travelled to the devastated country. “The day after the earthquake struck, the international community fed 3,000 people. Today, people have fed 100,000 people and we actually need to be feeding a million people,” said Chelsea. “This demonstrates how much we’ve done but how much more work we have to do. We need a lot of money to do that.”

Bill Clinton Speaks At AIDS Conference

The eyes of the world are this week firmly fixed on AIDS 2008, the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City.

The week-long conference officially opened on Sunday night, and last night (August 4) featured a rousing speech by former US president Bill Clinton.

“AIDS is a very big dragon. The mythological dragon was slain by Saint George, the original knight in shining armor, but this dragon must be slain by millions and millions of foot soldiers,” he told activists, leaders, and experts who gathered for the conference. “We know there is so much yet to be done: to expand prevention, treatment and care, to strengthen undeveloped health systems.”

Former US president Bill Clinton is fueling a new charity drive for both the corporate world and the community at large.

World wide poverty, climate change and health care – all issues of his own Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) – were on the agenda as Clinton spoke in Manhattan last week. CGI, a project of the Clinton Foundation since 2005, aims to link global leaders with real solutions to world problems.

Already this year CGI has several projects under way. Visa Inc has committed to small business development and literacy for 10 million people over five years; the Energy and Resources Institute has committed to bringing solar light to millions of rural Indians who normally rely on kerosene lanterns after dusk; Fundación Paraguaya is to provide education for sustainable agriculture in developing countries over the next 10 years; Standard Chartered Bank maintained its commitment to microfinance African and Asian institutions to benefit millions of farmers and negotiated a hydro-power project in Uganda to reduce emissions and decrease power costs; and Action by Lizzy Dupont has produced practical, instructional health videos in sign language for the deaf in Mali, Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Morocco.

President Bill Clinton wrote a tribute to Tony Blair’s philanthropic achievements for this year’s Time 100 list.

“When my friend Tony Blair stepped down as U.K. Prime Minister last year, I advised him to take some time off with his family and make a list of the issues he felt passionately about and that he could continue to pursue. It was the least he had earned after a decade of modernizing his country’s economy, making the U.K. one of the few nations to reduce their greenhouse-gas emissions more than required to meet their Kyoto target and leading the G-8 to historic commitments to support Africa and fight global poverty.

Tony listened to my advice graciously but ignored it completely by immediately accepting a new job as Middle East envoy for the Quartet. I have always admired Tony’s willingness to wade into troubled waters. Ten years ago, he did a masterly job in helping to end 30 years of sectarian violence and broker a lasting peace in Northern Ireland. Now he is demonstrating the dedication and intensity to promoting economic opportunity in the Middle East, learning from his Irish experience that showing the concrete benefits of peace can play a crucial role in making a just and lasting peace possible.

Clinton Asks Miners To Dig Deep

Former US president Bill Clinton and Canadian mining financier Frank Giustra, partners in the new Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative (CGSGI), are asking the mining and financial community to dig deep into their pockets.

Invitations have been sent out for a March 1 event to be held in Toronto, where comedian Robin Williams and musicians Elton John, Shakira, and Burton Cummings are expected to perform. The cost will range between $25,000 and $300,000 per table, and proceeds will help CGSGI assist mining communities long after the industry leaves.

“When Frank Giustra brought forward the idea of having the world’s mining sector pull together in support of alleviating poverty and building sustainable local economies in developing countries, I knew it would only succeed if the industry was serious about being actively involved,” said Mr Clinton.
