David Archuleta Helps Launch Lisa Lopes Medical Center

David Archuleta and Angels For A Cause (AFAC) will partner with the Lisa Lopes Foundation (LLF) to help raise $10,000 to launch the new medical center in Honduras.

The Lisa Lopes Foundation medical center will serve thousands of families and children living in impoverished areas of Honduras, with health conditions among the worst in the Western Hemisphere. Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America.

An estimated 1.5 million Hondurans were without access to health care in 2008. With the highest Aids rate in Central America, the quality and access to health care are directly tied to income levels. Health care for the urban and rural poor is extremely limited.

  The Lisa Lopes Foundation medical center – named after the late TLC singer Lisa Lopes – will provide free health services, establish an ongoing rotation of dental and medical brigades that will provide on-site services, ensure that the center is prepared with the basics in dental and medical supplies and provide a comfortable working environment for Medical and Dental Brigades or anyone servicing the area and staying at the center.

TLC To Reform For Charity Gig

R&B group TLC is to reform for a special benefit show hosted by Justin Timberlake.

The trio disbanded following the death of Lisa Lopes in 2002. The remaining members of the group, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, later worked on a reality show called “R U the Girl?” that sought a third member of the group, but have never officially performed under the name TLC again.

Timberlake’s concert, which benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children, will take place on October 17 in Las Vegas and will also feature Alicia Keys, Ciara and Taylor Swift. The concert will take place alongside a weeklong golf tournament, the 2009 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, which will take place from October 12-18.

Following Lopes’ death in a car accident, the Lisa Lopes Foundation was established to bring her dream of creating a non-profit educational and medical center on some property she owned near the coastal cities of La Ceiba and Jutiapa to life.

The show will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Tickets are priced at $250, $200, $150 and $100, and will be available at all Ticketmaster locations (select Smith’s Food and Drug Centers and Ritmo Latino). The Campaign for the Arts was created to promote artists of all genres, raise money for schools and not-for-profits and focus on providing solutions to issues that are plaguing our nation and our kids, while teaming with people worldwide to collectively help save the arts in our schools.

Founded by Digit, a Recording Artist, Songwriter and Producer, Campaign for the Arts Executives are industry leaders in Public Relations, Music and Legal Advisory. Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes Leaves Musical Legacy

On January 27th, 2009, the Lisa Lopes Foundation (LLF) held a “VIP” album release party for “Eye Legacy,” the first U.S. solo album for the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC.

The event was held in Atlanta at Ten Pin Alley, an upscale venue. The venue capacity was 500, which was easily maxed out by the many celebrities and guests in attendance, along with the excellent media coverage.

Special performances included Reigndrop (Left Eye’s Lil’ Sister), performing “Neva Will Eye Eva” from the Eye Legacy album and Collizion of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.

The highlight of the night was the release of Left Eye’s album titled “Eye Legacy” which includes previously unheard tracks, along with collaborations with Missy Elliot, T-Boz, Chili, Bobby Valentino, Lil’ Mama and Free (former Host of BET’s 106 & Park).

During the event, the Lisa Lopes Foundation presented its new program, the Edutainment Movement, which is education through entertainment. There was also an auction held and hosted by Ronnie Devoe (New Edition), in which sports and entertainment memorabilia was sold to benefit the Lisa Lopes Foundation.

“Having the release party was a way of paying tribute to Lisa and showing that we appreciate everything she has given us, the fans and the industry. Even though Lisa has moved on, her Legacy will be with us forever, through her music and the work of the Lisa Lopes Foundation,” stated Ronald Lopes, brother of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.

Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes Album Release Party

As announced exclusively on Look To The Stars last October, the new posthumous album from Lisa Left Eye Lopes will be released this month.

Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes was a member of the R&B group TLC, tragically killed in a car accident in 2002. Now, six years later, a collection of songs she recorded with Missy Elliot and Tupac Shakur will help raise funds for the Lisa Lopes Foundation, a charity set up to help realize her dream of creating a non-profit educational and medical center on some property she owned near the coastal cities of La Ceiba and Jutiapa in Honduras. The first official single, “Let’s Just Do It,” was released on January 13, 2009 and features Missy Elliott and TLC.

The much anticipated album release party for Eye Legacy will take place on January 27 at Ten Pin Alley, 261 19th St NW, Atlanta. The album includes a bonus DVD of never before seen footage of Left Eye. The album booklet will also contain fan messages that were collected through the Eye Legacy official MySpace page.

Lisa’s Home Of Love is a 10,000 sq. ft. orphanage created by the Foundation that includes a dental clinic, free healthcare, and on-site free schooling, and is open to children throughout the community who have no school to attend.

“She knew she was going to pass away and it was her plan to get all of this out there so people could learn what she had done,” said family friend Jay Marose. “She wanted people to hear it and wanted her family to do whatever they had to do.”

The Lisa Lopes Foundation (LLF) welcomes High School Musical actress Monique Coleman to their 3rd Annual Celebrity Gift Wrap Fundraiser event taking place at the Mall at Stone Crest, 2929 Turner Hill Rd., Lithonia, GA.

The Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes Foundation – along with their celebrity guests, businesses and volunteers – are the exclusive gift wrappers for the Mall at Stone Crest during this holiday season. Wrapping costs range from $3 – $10, depending on the size of the customer’s gift. Extended gift wrap hours from December 13 – 23, and gift wrappers will be on-hand on December 24, from open to close.

“I am excited to participate in this event to support such an incredible foundation,” stated Monique Coleman.

Hip Hop fans take note: the Atlanta Hip Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment takes place on October 17.

Founded in 2001, the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) is dedicated to harnessing the cultural relevance of Hip-Hop music to serve as a catalyst for education advocacy and other societal concerns fundamental to the empowerment of youth. The Summit will feature appearances from HSAN chairman Russell Simmons, as well as Ludacris and a host movers and shakers from the world of Hip Hop.

Leaders from the field will gather to talk about a range of issues facing young people today, including money management and wealth building, maintaining good credit, credit card and debt management, home ownership, and vehicle financing.

The event follows the VH1 Hip Hop Honors that were held on October 1. As part of that event – which celebrated Hip Hop luminaries who broke new ground and pioneered the genre of Hip Hop into a true cultural phenomenon – the Lisa Lopes Foundation announced a special initiative to raise funds for their organization: VH1 has released the “Last Days of Left Eye” for purchase, and a portion of the proceeds from each dvd will go towards the efforts of the Foundation.

The Lisa Lopes Foundation (LLF) was developed in 2003 by Lisa’s mother, Wanda Lopes-Colemon, brother Ronald Lopes and family friend Anashay Murphy. The Foundation was inspired by Lisa’s dream of building a children’s home on some land she purchased in Honduras. Shortly after revealing her plans to her family, Lisa – known as “Left Eye” and a member of girl group TLC – was killed in a car accident in Honduras. The family established the Lisa Lopes Foundation to bring her dream to fruition. Four years later they opened Lisa’s Hogar De Amor (Home of Love), a 10,000 sq. ft. orphanage. The LLF also provides teen programs in Georgia.

Janet Jackson Receives Humanitarian Honor

Superstar Janet Jackson was the recipient of a humanitarian award at an event organized by the Lisa Lopes Foundation on Saturday night.

Every year the charity honors an artist that has excelled in community and humanitarian efforts, and this year the presentation was made at the 13th Annual Hot 107.9 FM Birthday Bash at Phillips Stadium in Atlanta. Jackson was unable to attend the event, but accepted the award via a video. Other attendees included Ludacris and Usher, both of whom were past recipients of the award.

Jackson received the honor for her ability to create a global unification through her music and for her community efforts. She has provided global assistance to organizations which focus on children, hunger, conservation and animals, and after the tragic 911 attacks she supported the victims and families affected by the events at both the World Trade Center and the Pentagon through donations to the ClearChannel.com Relief Fund. She also aided the victims of the Tsunami disaster via the American Red Cross. Besides her support toward the on-going efforts of the Lisa Lopes Foundation, she also supports the Orca Network and Second Harvest.

“Instead of focusing on the mistakes our peers in the music industry make, the Lisa Lopes Award highlights their accomplishments in music and in giving back to the community,” said Ronald Lopes, Executive Director of the Lisa Lopes Foundation. “It’s our way of saying thank you. Your work has not gone unnoticed.”

The Lisa Lopes Foundation is celebrating the grand opening of the Lisa Lopes Rural School and Orphanage with its Celebrity Auction and Fund-raiser this
Saturday, August 18. The event will take place at The 40/40 Club in New York, where guests can mingle with Russell Simmons, Lil’ Kim, Flava Flav, JD Williams, Patti LaBelle and more while raising funds for the Lisa Lopes Orphanage in Honduras.

The orphanage provides a healthy home, dental clinic, and free healthcare for twenty abandoned children, ages 2-15. Free on-site schooling is also available for children in the community. Many of the children living in the orphanage have lost
their parents to AIDS and/or have been victims of sexual and physical abuse.

Honduras is the poorest country in the Americas, and was devastated by Hurricane Mitch in 1998, after which the number of orphans in Honduras increased considerably. Reputable orphanages and various professionally operated children’s homes are essential to ensuring stability throughout their society.
