Stars Join Elephant Project Auction For Alzheimer's

A host of celebrities have signed “Elephant Cards” for the latest Elephant Project auction to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

Building on the idea that elephants never forget, the special photo cards have been signed by stars such as Ashley Tisdale, Miranda Cosgrove, Chace Crawford, Kristin Chenoweth, Stockard Channing, Carrie Fisher, Brandon Flowers, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt, Jane Fonda, Nelly Furtado, Jonny Lee Miller, Sienna Miller, Lauren Ambrose, Geoffrey Rush, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Griffin, Sarah Silverman, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Lady Gaga, Gerard Butler and many more.

Created in 2006 by 18-year old David Niederhoffer after his grandfather passed away from Alzheimer’s disease, the Elephant Project aims to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association, and to get teenagers more active in community service.

“There is a phrase that says ‘Elephants never forget’,” said Niederhoffer. “Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia… As I live relatively close to New York City, I wait outside of Broadway theaters and other events to meet each celebrity. After explaining to them what I am doing, I ask each celebrity to sign a business card that was custom made for this project. I also ask the celebrities to pose with either Trumpet the Elephant beanie baby or Peanut the Elephant beanie baby. All the pictures are printed out and auctioned off with the signed card. After I obtain a significant amount of signed cards/pictures, they are auctioned off on eBay. Each auction package also comes with an elephant beanie baby!”

Tracy Lawrence To Hold Charity Golf Tournament Next Week

Country star Tracy Lawrence is to hold his fifteenth annual charity golf tournament next week.

Proceeds from the tournament – to be held at the Texarkana Golf Ranch in Texarkana, Texas, on Monday, April 20 – will go to the Tracy Lawrence Foundation.

“It’s so important to me to give back to the community where I spent my childhood… where my life took shape,” said Lawrence. “I’m in a place in my life where I can help friends, families and communities mold the future of others and that’s a wonderful gift to give.”

The Tracy Lawrence Foundation positively influences and improves hundreds of thousands of residents’ lives and has donated more than $1 million to over 35 communities and civic groups in and around Foreman, Arkansas, over the last 14 years. During that time, the foundation has assembled and equipped a computer lab for Tracy’s alma mater, Foreman High School; constructed an outdoor pavilion for Watersprings Ranch, a home for abused and neglected children dedicated to restoring their childhood; been an active, repeat sponsor for the Alzheimer’s Walk in Texarkana (Tracy is also the national spokesperson for the Alzheimer’s Association); sponsored the local CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) which places abandoned and abused children with foster parents; funded two scholarships to assist with housing, food, books and tuition expenses for students at Texarkana College and Southern Arkansas University; and provided funding for books at Foreman Public Library.

Stars Team Up To Fight Alzheimer's

In an amazing display of dedication and support, hundreds of celebrities, businesspersons, sports figures, and entertainment-industry leaders came together for “A Night at Sardi’s,” the annual star-studded benefit for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Held at the Beverly Hilton, the much-anticipated March 4 event raised nearly $1 million for Alzheimer’s care and research. In 17 years, A Night at Sardi’s has raised nearly $18 million for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

Comedian and author Chelsea Handler hosted the evening, which, in addition to cocktails and dinner, included red carpet arrivals, awards presentations and a research update. It culminated in a concert version of the musical “Damn Yankees” performed by some of the industry’s most recognizable talents, including Kristen Bell, Sean Hayes, Melina Kanakaredes, Katey Sagal, Victor Garber, Peter Gallagher, Kathryn Gallagher, Ken Howard, Sharon Lawrence, Vicki Lewis, Ron Fassler and Larry Raben.

Actor JK Simmons led cast members from CBS’s “Big Bang Theory” in a rousing rendition of the show’s finale, “You’ve Gotta Have Heart.”

FOX Sports received the Advocacy Award for its public service campaign and support of the Alzheimer’s Association. Sportscaster and former NFL Star Charles Davis presented the award to David Hill, Chairman & CEO of FOX Sports Television Group, Ed Goren, President of FOX Sports and Bill Wanger, SVP of Programming & Research, FOX Sports.

Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Aimee Teegarden and fellow cast members of “Friday Night Lights” presented the gala’s Abe Burrows Entertainment Award to the show’s executive producer Jason Katims. The NBC drama was honored for depicting the effects of Alzheimer’s disease on its characters. The award is named for the late playwright and director, who died of Alzheimer’s.

Swoosie Kurtz presented Caregiver of the Year honors to Serge Morales of Agoura Hills, whose wife, Susan Franklin Morales, was diagnosed with young onset Alzheimer’s two years ago at age 55.

Many other entertainment luminaries came to support the cause and raise awareness, including Bradley Cooper, Dennis Quaid, Molly Sims, Billy Crystal, Soleil Moon Frye, Rachel York, Ron Rifkin, Gina Philips, Shelley Fabares and Mike Farrell.

Event co-chairs were Laurie Burrows Grad and Peter Grad. Ms. Grad created this event to honor her father, the late playwright/director Abe Burrows.

This gala is important because it raises funds for Alzheimer’s disease care and research. More than 5 million people in the U.S. have Alzheimer’s and that number is expected to grow as the population ages and the Baby Boom generation turns age 65. The Alzheimer’s Association is the global leader in Alzheimer care, support and research.

Elephants Never Forget Celebrity Auctions

They say an elephant never forgets… and this new celebrity charity auction will give you something to remember forever.

A host of celebrities have donated signed photos and memorabilia to the Alzheimer’s Association’s Elephant Project Auction. Stars such as Pink, Julie Andrews, Jennifer Garner, Adam Sandler, Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, Sarah Silverman, Shirley MacLaine, John Lithgow, Melinda Doolittle, William H. Macy, Jason Biggs, Jimmy Kimmel and many more have put their signatures on special photo cards for the auction, and all proceeds go to this great cause.

Take It To The Limit With A Signed Eagles Guitar

Classic rock legends The Eagles are about to set off on their 2009 Long Road Out Of Eden tour, and to celebrate they are auctioning a signed guitar for charity.

The fantastic Takamine G-Series acoustic guitar has been signed by band members Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Scmidt, and proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Also going under the hammer this week for the charity are guitars signed by Miley Cyrus and Brooks and Dunn, as well as signed memorabilia from the Grateful Dead, Jewel, Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsay Buckingham, Scarlett Johansson, Maroon 5, New Kids On The Block and many more.

Kristen Bell Attends Alzheimer's Event

Actress Kristen Bell was one of the many stars to attend the 17th annual Alzheimer’s Association A Night At Sardi’s event in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, March 4.

Held at the Beverly Hills Hotel, the event attracted stars such as Jason Alexander, Vanessa Williams, Dick Van Dyke, Michelle Pfeiffer, P. Diddy, Greg Kinnear, Zachary Levi, Michael Chiklis and William Shatner, and honored the producers of Fox Sports and the TV show “Friday Night Lights”.

The charity event is one of the biggest annual fundraisers for the Alzheimer’s Association, garnering over $17 million since it was first held.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. Their mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. The Alzheimer’s Association is currently auctioning off some very cool celebrity encounters.

Going under the hammer at Charity Folks right now are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities such as the chance to join Greg Kinnear or Dennis Quaid at the Bel Air Country Club for a round of golf, tickets to the LA premiere and after party of the new Star Trek movie starring Eric Bana, a guitar signed by the Jonas Brothers, and the chance to meet Mandy Moore backstage at one of her concerts.

The Alzheimer’s Association aims to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research, as well as to provide and enhance care and support for all affected and reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

These are great items for a great cause, but you had better be quick because the auction ends very soon.
