Continuing that tradition, the company has announced the launch of the 2011 edition of the Guide featuring actress and philanthropist Eva Longoria on the cover, alongside Elijah De La Cerda, a 5-year-old boy with Down syndrome from Fresno, CA.

Released annually, this complimentary resource is created with guidance from the National Lekotek Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making play accessible to children of all abilities. Eva Longoria and Antonio Banderas hosted a very special charity gala in Spain on August 7.

The Starlite Gala raised money for three charities and their goals: Eva’s Heroes (founded by Eva Longoria), to fund 50 programs for special needs children; Fundación Lágrimas y Favores (founded by Antonio Banderas), to award 30 scholarships for students from Malaga to study abroad; and Niños en Alegria (Children in Hapiness), to build a primary school in Mexico.

Deepak Chopra was presented with a special Humanitarian Award at the event, and a number of items and experiences went under the hammer – including a day on the set of Desperate Housewives and CSI: Miami.

Tomorrow night, August 9, will see Eva Longoria Parker hosting her very own poker tournament for charity.

The Tony and Eva Parker Celebrity Casino Night will take place at Pedrotti’s North Wind Ranch in San Antonio, Texas. UltimateBet – an online poker room – has announced sponsorship of the event, and has also donated an Aruba Poker Classic prize package to the event’s live auction. The prize package includes a seat in this year’s Poker Classic, plus a head-to-head poker game and a lesson with 11-time World Series of Poker winner Phil Hellmuth in his personal suite in Aruba. The 2008 Aruba Poker Classic kicks off on September 27, and several celebrities have already confirmed their attendance – including Don Cheadle and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.

Eva Longoria Parker’s event, which she is co-hosting with husband Tony Parker – the San Antonio Spurs star point guard – will raise money for the actress’ own charity, Eva’s Heroes. Eva Longoria is to host a special poker tournament to raise money for charity.

The 33-year-old star of Desperate Housewives will host the event with her husband – San Antonio Spurs star point guard Tony Parker – with all proceeds going to Eva’s Heroes, the charity she set up to give people with developmental disabilities the chance to succeed and grow.

The Tony and Eva Parker Celebrity Casino Night will take place on August 9 at Pedrotti’s North Wind Ranch in San Antonio, Texas, with a buy-in of $300. This will give players 10,000 in starting chips, and $100 additional rebuys (for 5,000 in chips) will be available throughout the first hour once players dip below 5,000. Casino games will also be running during the tournament, including blackjack, roulette, craps, slot machines, and a money wheel.

Actress Eva Longoria launched her first annual Celebrity Golf Tournament in October to raise funds for her nonprofit charity, Eva’s Heroes. Biting her nails down to the last minute, Longoria said she was overjoyed by the outpouring of support.

Joined by fellow stars the likes of Ana Ortiz, Robert Gossett, Kyle Maclachlan, Jesse Borrego, Lupe Ontiveros, Rita Verreos, Mario Lopez and George Lopez, who provided entertainment as well as celebrity pull, the goal was to raise $200,000 for programs and enrichment centers that will provide unique after school experiences for developmentally challenged children and young adults.

Having grown up with an intellectually disabled sister, Longoria considers her sister her hero. “She has given me so much inspiration and hope to face everyday with the strength and courage she has had her whole life. She has never seen herself with a disability and only sees the good in everyone and everything.”
