When you take three young stars from two hit Nickelodeon shows, add a fun educational program with an exciting new sweepstakes and multiply by the fact that you’re helping kids with cancer, it’s bound to equal success.

“iCarly” stars Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Kress and “Victorious” star Ariana Grande are teaming up to help kids across the country get excited about developing their math skills through the St. Jude Math-A-Thon program, America’s largest education-based fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The United States Postal Service has unveiled a commemorative Forever Stamp honoring legendary entertainer Danny Thomas, the founder of the renowned St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The unveiling took place at a star-studded gala in Los Angeles this past weekend to celebrate Thomas’ 100th birthday and the St. Jude’s 50th anniversary.

“The Danny Thomas stamp, which will be officially dedicated at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, and go on sale on Feb. 16, will become an ambassador for philanthropy, traveling on letters and packages to households and businesses throughout America and the world,” said Ed Ruiz, USPS Los Angeles district manager. “It also will serve as a lasting tribute to one of America’s most beloved and enduring entertainers who worked tirelessly to help the most helpless of all — children with diseases.”

Teen Actor Hosts Second Charity Bowl-A-Thon

Teen actor Jordan Van Vranken is hosting her second Annual Bowl-A-Thon Sunday, January 15th to raise money to support kids with cancer and to contribute to the 21st Annual Ronald McDonald House Radiothon.

Jordan has participated in the Memphis Ronald McDonald House fundraiser since she was 7, an event that raises money for the home for children and their families who are being treated at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Jordan created the Bowl-A-Thon event as a way to help raise additional funds and allow her Los Angeles-based friends and fellow actors to participate in this worthwhile cause.

“I love the Memphis Ronald McDonald House and the St. Jude kids. I will be in Memphis for the annual Radiothon fundraiser in February, but wanted to find a way to include my friends here in LA.” Jordan has been working on the second annual Bowl-A-Thon for months. This year she has attracted additional sponsors for the event, including Soup’s Sports Grill in Woodland Hills, CA, who will donate 20% of all purchases January 14th and 15th towards the fundraiser when Jordan’s event flyer is presented.

Tony Bennett, Ray Romano and Phil Donahue will headline the celebration as stars from the entertainment industry show their support for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s 50th anniversary with a benefit gala in Los Angeles on January 7, 2012.

Tony Bennett, a personal friend of St. Jude founder – the late entertainer Danny Thomas – will perform for the star-studded crowd along with Ray Romano, a good friend of the Thomas family and an ardent supporter of St. Jude, to help commemorate what would have been Thomas’ 100th birthday. The 50th anniversary gala honors St. Jude’s commitment to saving the lives of children fighting cancer and other deadly diseases.

“My father always said there would be no St. Jude without Hollywood,” said Tony Thomas, son of Danny Thomas and one of the gala’s co-chairs. “He spent the 1950’s raising money for his dream, to build a hospital for research and care under one roof for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Steve Harwell – frontman for rockers Smash Mouth – is to eat 24 eggs as part of a bet that has seen thousands of dollars raised for charity.

The bet was started by satire site SomethingAwful.com, and has now grown into an international campaign that will see the singer eat the eggs when $10,000 is raised for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. As of writing, almost $6,000 has been raised for the charity.

Sarah Leners To Host Charity Event For Chocaholics

Actress Sarah Leners will host a charity event with a difference – the 2011 Indulge Los Angeles Olympic Collection – later this year.

The event – which features sugary confections by top Celebrity Chefs, including US Champion Pastry Chef Frania Mendivil, Marcel Vigneron (FoodNetwork), Sarah Lady Chocolatier and Annette Starbuck – is raising funds for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Sarah Leners, a “chocaholic,” is a long time supporter of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Taylor Swift Supports St. Jude's Childrens Hospital

Taylor Swift has recently teamed up with the Academy of Country Music (ACM) to donate $50,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Every year the Entertainer of the Year, which is currently Swift, chooses a charity to donate to and the ACM doubles the amount chosen.

St. Jude is the only cancer research center where treatments that are not covered by insurance don’t have to be paid for by the families. As a result, no child is ever denied treatment, even if the family is unable to pay. It is one of the few charity-based hospitals and has been described as a blessing for many. St. Jude is dependent on donations for them to stay open as they share their discoveries with scientific and medical communities all over the world.

The charity has also received over $1.25 million which was raised by Celebrity Apprentice winner, John Rich from his work on The Apprentice.

Country music star John Rich has been named the overall winner of Celebrity Apprentice 2011, narrowly beating deaf actress Marlee Matlin.

During the series, he won $1.5 million for his chosen charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. William Shatner To Host Charity Horse Show This Weekend

William Shatner’s Hollywood Charity Horse Show will take place this Sunday, May 1, with special musical guest Sheryl Crow.

Shatner has been hosting the charity horse shows for the last twenty years – inspired after he watched an exhibition by children who were so severely handicapped that some of them could not hold their head up, yet there they were going through intricate exercises on the back of a horse. The program was sponsored by Ahead With Horses, a therapeutic riding group for handicapped children. In 1990, Shatner hosted his first charity horse show, and the event has become a major fixture on the charity calendar.

This year’s event – on May 1 – will benefit AHEAD with Horses, Camp Max Straus, Starlight Children’s Foundation, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Hollenbeck Police Activities League, The Painted Turtle and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
