Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters will return as hosts of the star-studded 13th Broadway Barks dog and cat adopt-a-thon benefiting New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies this weekend.

The event, produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, will again take place in Shubert Alley with festivities beginning on July 9 at 3:30 pm and celebrity presentations of pets from citywide animal shelters beginning at 5:30 pm.

Kristin Chenoweth: Charity Shoe Designer

Kristin Chenoweth talked to Reality Cares Radio’s Todd Michael Krim about her charity work last week, and revealed she is about to take on a new role – shoe designer.

The star – currently appearing in Promises Promises on Broadway – is well known for raising awareness of adoption and foster care, and told Todd she will design a limited edition charity shoe for ShoeDazzle to benefit the Adoption Institute. The shoe will go on sale this Fall.

Kristin talked at length about being adopted herself, and how that influences her work with adoption charities today.

Antonio Banderas Bottles Charity Scent

Antonio Banderas is preparing to release his seventh men’s fragrance, ‘The Secret,’ this summer, and insisted that his passion for philanthropy be bottled along with it as well.

The actor become one of the first celebrity perfumers back in the mid-1990s when he signed a deal with PUIG and admits he would not continue to be involved in the fragrance industry if his work didn’t have a dual purpose.

“I’ve been working with them [PUIG] for 14 years now. When they proposed for me to do [a fragrance], I hesitated a bit at the beginning. And then I went to Barcelona and had a meeting with these people who have been doing perfumes from the 19th century and it sounded pretty comfortable,” Banderas tells WENN, “They allow me to have a number of things attached to the perfume. Like having a number of charities all around the world. When we go to launch the perfume in Argentina we try to bring something to them, we’ll collaborate with a hospital. We go to Chile, we collaborate with UNICEF… of course, we come to New York and because of my relationship with Broadway, Broadway Cares was our target; we established a relationship with them five years ago and we’re going to continue.”

Stars Design Charity Toilets In New York

Visitors to the Charmin Restrooms in New York this holiday season experienced a special celebrity charity treat. Patrons of the toilets were able to use special toilet seats designed by celebrities such as country singer Martina McBride, comedian Mario Cantone, actor Mario Lopez and actress Sherri Shepherd.

For every visitor to the Charmin Restrooms between December 17 and December 31, Charmin donated one dollar to the celebrity’s charity of choice, including Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of America, loveisrespect – National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline, The Harlem Children’s Zone, and Angels in Waiting.

“I was thrilled to unveil the five specially-designed toilet seat covers today, including my own,” said Mario Cantone. “This is such a creative way to raise money for charity during the holiday season, and I had a lot of fun bringing my own vision to life!”

Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman Raise $1.5 Million for AIDS

At the New York Palace Theatre’s closing ceremony of the 21st annual Gypsy of the Year Competition, a six-week fundraising event that finished earlier this month, Bernadette Peters announced that a record-breaking $4.6 million had been raised.

The money was raised by 60 Broadway, Off-Broadway and National Tour companies – including original song and dance performances created by the casts of more than a dozen shows – to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA), a charity that provides grants to Actors Fund social services and American family services and AIDS organizations.

A second record was broken during the competition by A Steady Rain. This Broadway play, staring Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman, raised over $1.5 million for BC/EFA alone, more than double the record last set in 2003 by The Boy from Oz in which Jackman had also performed.

Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman gave the shirts off their backs to charity last week.

The pair – currently performing on Broadway in A Steady Rain – agreed to sell their vests to the highest bidder to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, an industry-based organization that relies on the talents and generosity of the American Theatre community to raise money for AIDS-related causes in the United States. The sale of the vests scooped $3,500 for the charity.

The two stars also sold backstage passes and photo opportunities for $2,000, signed posters for $300, and signed programs for $60.

Broadway Barks 11th Annual Adopt-A-Thon

Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters will host the eleventh annual BROADWAY BARKS!, a star-studded dog and cat adopt-a-thon benefiting New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies.

The event, produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and sponsored by the SPCA and PEDIGREE with additional sponsorship by the New York Times will take place on Saturday, July 11 in Shubert Alley (located between 44th and 45th Streets, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue). The festivities begin at 3:30 p.m.; celebrity presentations of pets from citywide animal shelters will take place between 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Moore and Peters will be joined by such luminaries of stage and screen as Ashanti (The Wiz), Jayne Atkinson (Blithe Spirit), Stephanie J. Antonio Banderas Sniffs Out Charity Fragrance

Heartthrob Antonio Banderas has launched his first fragrance for women, and will be donating some of the profits to charity.

The 47-year-old actor launched Blue Seduction For Women at a function yesterday that featured some of the children that will benefit from the new perfume. The Spanish star announced that $1 from every sale of Blue Seduction for Women – developed by PUIG USA – this Christmas (08) will go to the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

“I am committed to the arts so it is wonderful to have Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS… as part of this launch and partnership,” said Banderas. “I’m proud to partner with Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS, who supports many organizations for children and at-risk youth with educational programs, as well as social service programs for people affected by HIV/AIDS.”

Soap Star Auctions Himself For Charity

Cameron Mathison, the charismatic star of “All My Children”, is hoping to charm ladies into donating to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, an industry based HIV/AIDS fundraising organization. The New York-based soap hunk is willing to put himself up for auction at Town Hall to benefit the charity. Mathison will host the event on March 2, 2008.

Mathison fared well on “Dancing With the Stars” last season, and you may remember him from the Superman-like C emblem he wore on his chest. He was voted off just before the semifinals.
Imagine private dance lessons with Mathison, and the opportunity to perform at the benefit show, which will also feature other ABC Daytime soap stars, as well as the co-hosts of The View. Kevin Kline Sells Nose For Charity

Kevin Kline knows how to entertain an audience. He also knows how to generate enthusiasm for a good cause. Following recent performances of “Cyrano de Bergerac” in New York, Kline offered audiences the chance to buy the fake noses he wears as Cyrano to raise money for AIDS-related charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

The fundraiser was well received by audiences. A spokeswoman for the production said that a television producer paid $1,300 for the first autographed prosthetic nose while another theater-goer paid $1,500 the following night. The noses were signed by Kline and co-star Jennifer Garner.

“The idea that Kevin Kline is literally auctioning the nose off his face is hilarious, and hilarious for a great cause,” said Tom Viola, executive director of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
