Darius Rucker To Perform At Charity Concert

Country music performer and former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker will headline a charity concert on Sunday, May 13, 2012 as an exciting finale to the inaugural ANNIKA & Friends at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

The concert will be held at 7 p.m. on the North Park lawn at the beautiful Grand Boulevard at Sandestin. General admission tickets will go on sale through the event website, www.AnnikaandFriends.com, on Thursday, Dec.1 at 10 a.m. EST.

Darius Rucker, lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish, is now topping the county music charts as a solo artist. His 2008 release, Learn To Live album produced three consecutive # 1 singles and Top 5 smash, “History In The Making.” Rucker’s success in the country music format was recognized at the 43rd Annual CMA Awards when he received the Top New Artist title and again with ACM, Teen Choice, and AMA Award nominations. Rucker is currently riding high with the release of his sophomore country album, Charleston, SC 1966 which has produced two # 1’s “Come Back Song” and “This” a well as the current single, “I Got Nothin’.” Rucker just announced that he will be joining Grammy award winning trio Lady Antebellum on the second leg of the Own The Night 2012 World Tour, which will kick off in Tulsa, Okla. in late January and will run through June 2012.

Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder will headline a special concert celebrating the 11th annual BMW Celebrity Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament next month.

The guitar legend will join over 20 celebrities teeing off in the tournament from May 19-22 in South Carolina, including Lucas Black, Mark Bryan, Oliver Hudson, Josh Kelley, Greg Kinnear, Cheech Marin, Terry O’Quinn, Michael Pena, Joe Pesci, Jerry Rice, Rascal Flatts’ Joe Don Rooney, Kevin Sorbo, Gary Valentine, Patrick Warburton, Luke Wilson, Jeffrey Donovan and many more.

Samuel L. Jackson To Lead Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament

A huge number of stars and famous faces will hit the golf course in next month as part of the BMW Charity Pro-Am tournament.

The 2010 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation will be played Thursday, May 13 through Sunday, May 16 at South Carolina’s Bright’s Creek Golf Club, The Carolina Country Club and Thornblade Club. Among the 28 celebrities confirmed to tee off are former Eagles guitarist Don Felder, Catherine Bell, Samuel L. Jackson, Dr. Phil McGraw, Dennis Quaid, Rascal Flatts guitarist Joe Don Rooney, Kurt Russell, Kevin Sorbo, Luke Wilson and many others.

The BMW Charity Pro-Am is the only tournament on the Nationwide Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Nationwide Tour professionals in a four-day better-ball competition over three courses. Amateurs, celebrities and pros rotate between three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the 14 lowest scoring pro-amateur/pro-celebrity teams advancing to play Sunday’s final round at Thornblade Club. Celebrities play once at each course on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $108,000 from the total purse of $600,000.

Andy Garcia Wins Charity Golf Tournament

The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is a 72-hole PGA TOUR golf championship that started in the 1930s. Top PGA professionals team up with Hollywood celebrities, athletes and world-renowned musicians.

The Celebrity Challenge is a part of the tournament, and a fan favorite. Teams play only five holes, each of which as a specific purse. Players who win each hole receive the purse, and then give whatever they win to charity. This year’s winners were Jeffrey Donovan and Andy Garcia, who each gave 11,000 to the charities of their choice. Donovan chose to give to the Amesbury Educational Foundation, while Andy Garcia gave to First Tee of Monterey County. The total amount given to charity was $29,000.

This year the tournament was held from February 8-14. Players rotated to different golf courses, and the championship round took place at Pebble Beach.

Charles Barkley Swings For The First Tee

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley hit the greens for charity last week as he took part in the 4th Annual Barkley, Bean, Bryant & Friends Celebrity Skins Game on Friday February 6 at the YMCA Par 3 in Lakeland Florida.

Barkley is no stranger to the event and has helped raise $725,00 for The First Tee of Lakeland’s youth golf facility’s budget.

“When I did it the first time, I just did it. And I had such a good time, it’s one of the first things I put on my schedule every year,’’ Barkley said.

Hootie and the Blowfish to Play at Rock Fore! Dough IV

Recording artists Hootie and the Blowfish, Colbie Caillat, Josh Kelley and John Krueger are scheduled to perform for the annual Rock Fore! Dough IV benefit concert. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 8th in Augusta, GA at the First Tee of Augusta.

The proceeds of the Rock Fore! Dough support the First Tee of Augusta, one of over 200 chapters of the First Tee Network. Over the past three years the Rock Fore! Dough event has raised over $200,000 for the charity.

First Tee’s goal is to “…impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.”
