Sting To Play At Earth Day Climate Rally

Sting and John Legend are just two of the stars set to play at a special Earth Day event in Washington DC later this month.

On Sunday, April 25, the Earth Day Network and partner organizations will organize a massive climate rally at The National Mall to demand Congress enacts climate and clean energy legislation in 2010. The Climate Rally will capstone Earth Day Network’s nine-day event on The National Mall with speeches from environmental stewards Reverend Jesse Jackson, film director James Cameron, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, Olympic gold medalist Billy Demong, producer Trudie Styler and author Margaret Atwood to bring the issue of climate change to an international stage.

Also appearing on stage at the event will be The Roots, Bob Weir, Patrick Stump, Mavis Staples, Passion Pit and more.

Help Celebrities Make A Bid To Save The World

Christie’s International has announced it will hold a new green auction it has dubbed “A Bid to Save the Earth.”

This first-of-its-kind charity auction will take place on April 22, 2010, to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The Evening Sale event will be held at Christie’s, Rockefeller Center, New York and be carried live globally via Christie’s LIVE on www.christies.com. Proceeds from the sale will be divided among four leading not-for-profit environmental organizations: Conservation International, Oceana, Natural Resources Defense Council and the Central Park Conservancy.

Christie’s is partnering with Charitybuzz, the leading destination for online charity benefit auctions, to present a companion silent auction which will be hosted at www.ABidtoSavetheEarth.org. Christie’s will waive all fees and commissions for the auction. Native Energy, www.nativeenergy.com, a leader in carbon offsetting, will provide carbon offsets for the entire Green Auction. NBC Universal, as part of its ongoing environmental initiative, “Green is Universal,” will serve as the official media partner for the event.

Celebrities Sign Bags For Earth Day

Sak’s is joining a host of companies celebrating Earth Day by offering a celebrity bag auction.

Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22 to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. Founded by the organizers of the first Earth Day in 1970, the Earth Day Network promotes environmental citizenship and year round progressive action worldwide. Their mission is to grow and diversify the environmental movement worldwide, and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable planet.

The celebrity bags have been signed by celebs such as Robin Wright Penn, Rosie Perez, Blair Underwood, Justine Bateman, Jessica Alba, Alec Baldwin, Sandra Oh and Mena Suvari. The bag auction will support The Nature Conservancy’s Plant a Billion Trees campaign and for each dollar contributed, one tree will be planted. The conservancy has already protected over 119 million acres of land and 5,000 miles of rivers worldwide.

Tomorrow, April 22, will see one of the largest global events uniting the planet against climate change to be held this year. Millions of evironmentally-minded people around the planet will hold events to celebrate the 38th annual Earth Day, a massive campaign focussing on global warming and raising awareness for a cleaner environment.

First held in 1970, and established by US Senator Gaylord Nelson, the event marks the anniversary of the modern environmental movement. All over the world, the day will see concerned citizens of the planet out in force, calling for action against global warming and a healthy, sustainable environment. Breakfasts, Scuba diving contests, celebrations, parties, wine and food festivals, marathons, and concerts are just some of the thousands of events that have been planned around the globe by the Earth Day Network, the driving-force behind the event.

One of the major campaigns being promoted in the US as part of Earth Day 2008 is the Call For Climate initiative, which encourages people to ring Congress and demand climate change action to be taken.
