The 4th Annual Cox Charities Benefit Concert featuring Virginia’s own Jason Mraz and very special guests Raining Jane helped raise much-needed funds for the charity, bringing the 2013 fundraising total to date to $230,000.

Cox Charities, the philanthropic arm of Cox Communications, will use the funds to award grants to qualifying organizations for programs that further the academic achievement and development of young people in Cox service areas throughout Virginia.

“We are so very thankful for the overwhelming support we received from the community for the 2013 Cox Charities Benefit Concert,” said Gary McCollum, senior vice president and general manager for Cox Virginia. “Our guests not only had the opportunity to enjoy an amazing musical performance, they also contributed to the bright futures of youth throughout Virginia. Fundraising events like the Cox Charities Benefit Concert allow us to continue to have an impact on our community through organizations that aid in youth and educational success.”

In addition to the concert, other public events including the Score for Charity Golf Tournaments in Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia along with Cox Charities Night at Party in Elmwood in Roanoke contributed to the year’s fundraising success thus far. All proceeds from Cox Charities events directly support youth and education programs in local Virginia communities within the Cox footprint through the Cox Charities grants program.

Since 2009, Cox has donated more than $460,000 to 42 organizations serving children in Virginia through Cox Charities.

The 2013 Cox Charities grant window is now open at coxcharities.org. Non-profit organizations supporting youth and education programs in the Cox Virginia footprint are encouraged to apply by visiting www.coxcharities.org. Applications for eligibility will be accepted through November 8, 2013.
