New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony recently returned from Puerto Rico, where his Carmelo Anthony Foundation helped reconstruct a sports center at the Lomas housing project in this eastern Puerto Rican city.

He blogged about the experience on GlobalGrind.com.

“Last weekend, I had the honor of sharing with the community in Luquillo a small area of San Juan, Puerto Rico,” he wrote. "The community was amazing. They were so excited and full of pride as they celebrated with me and we dedicated a new refurbished court back to them.

“We created a safe place for to play and to enjoy themselves. I had a great time, the spirit of appreciation was overwhelming. I’m blessed to be in the position I’m in and I’m not going to waste it.

“I have a program called Courts 4 Kids, and have committed to refurbishing courts in under-served communities.

“I want to go to places others have forgotten to give kids a chance to do something other than what their environment dictates. At the end of the day, there are kids in all of these communities and they deserve a chance. They really are our future.”
