Kathleen Turner, an iconic film and stage star and chair of Planned Parenthood's Board of Advocates, will speak about reproductive rights and the state of women’s health during a National Press Club luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 6.

Turner will be in Washington, D.C. from late August through October, performing as a rabble-rousing journalist in “Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins” at Arena Stage. The play, honoring Ivins, was written by twin-sister journalist-playwrights Margaret and Allison Engel. Ivins, who died in 2007, was a journalist, humorist and author known for her passionate and liberal views.

Turner, too, is passionate about liberal political causes, particularly those involving reproductive rights. She has long been involved with Planned Parenthood, working as a fund raiser and spokeswoman. Over the years, she has spoken at many rallies and testified before Congress on family-planning funding.

Turner has starred in numerous Hollywood movies, including Body Heat, Peggy Sue Got Married, Romancing the Stone, The War of the Roses, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Prizzi’s Honor. On Broadway, she dazzled audiences in many productions, including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Graduate and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.

The Press Club luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session, ending at 2 p.m. This event is open to Press Club members and their guests only. Tickets cost $19 for members and $30 for guests of members. Reservations should be made through (202) 662-7501 or reservations@press.org. Tickets must be purchased at time of reservation.

National Press Club Luncheons are webcast live on press.org. Follow the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #NPCLunch, or on Facebook.
