This is a good and worthy event. Dr. Vncent Tuohy's 'Pink Vaccine' to prevent breast cancer is a good and worthy cause. Let's get these two together! We can prevent 70% of breast cancer with a vaccine, just like we prevent polio. Dr. Tuohy at the Cleveland Clinic needs only $6 million to complete Phase I trials. He has applied to Komen 4 separate times and been rejected each time. Obviously, there is no profit in prevention. If you are trying to be the change you see in the world, do your own investigation of Dr. Tuohy's work. Better yet, call and chat with the good doctor. http://my.clevelandclinic.org/giving/where-to-give/tuohy_vaccine.aspx

Although I'm grateful for the outreach displayed by all of the "celebrities" that donated their time to "stand up to cancer".....the fact remains, we can stand all day, race all day, and talk all day. That's not going to save the lives of people diagnosed with cancer. We must find a PREVENTION! Why is this so difficult to understand? I've been watching Jerry Lewis telethons for 50 years, raising mufti-millions in two days. Don't tell me that there isn't a cure for Muscular Dystrophy!!! The problem is that no one wants to find a cure because there's too much profit involved. The same scenario applies for breast cancer. We've been "racing for the cure" since 1983 and we've lost thousands of Moms! There is a vaccine right here, right now located at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio just waiting to test on humans. Yet there isn't an organization out there that's willing to fund it. "Celebrity" according to my definition, would be that of a person that promotes and finances the science of Dr. Vincent Tuohy at the Cleveland Clinic. Come on Halle Berry, Cleveland is your home town! Wouldn't you want your name attached to this historical immunization?

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is just around the corner and I have learned of a breast cancer PREVENTION vaccine that can save more than $86.44 Billion in healthcare costs in this country, per year. I am asking that you bring this to your husband’s attention because I understand his mom died of a preventable cancer.
A preventive vaccine, developed by Dr. Vincent Tuohy of the Cleveland Clinic was found to be 100% effective in preventing breast cancer in mice. Even mice bred for a high incidence of breast cancer failed to develop it when the vaccine was administered. Further, researchers found that mice already infected with breast cancer saw a marked reduction in tumors after being given this vaccine.
Funding for The Pink Vaccine would have a tremendous affect on millions of lives as well as on spiraling health care costs in our country. The $6 Million needed to move forward with clinical trials is a drop in the breast cancer bucket yet women continue to be diagnosed, and others die every day of this horrible disease.
How did I arrive at my $86.44 billion? Almost $300,000 was billed to my insurance company to ‘cure’ my breast cancer, not including the cost of reconstructive surgeries. According to BreastCancer.org, an estimated 288,130 were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. If you multiply the cost of my treatment by the 288,130 women diagnosed in 2011, the result is $86.44 Billion, not including income lost and the emotional toll breast cancer takes on its victims and their families.

I am a breast cancer surgeon trained at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. I've been in practice for 18 years and have taken care of more than 6000 patients. The best way to stand up to cancer is to knock it out cold. As the saying goes, "If you intend to go after the king you better make sure you kill him." The world's first preventive breast cancer vaccine was developed in 2010 at the Cleveland Clinic by Professor Vincent Tuohy. It was 100% effective in preventing breast cancer in mice - results verified and validated by a panel of experts on the editorial board of Nature Medicine where his paper was published in May 2010. The next step is to test the vaccine to see if it is safe in women. This will require approximately $3 million .... Komen has turned him down. The National Breast Cancer Coalition announced that they are going to develop one on their own. Come on people! Before we can stand up to cancer, we're going to have to stand up to mediocrity, politics, ignorance, and vanity. At the very least, please sign my petition (for the Pink Vaccine) and help me find the money. This stalemate is ridiculous.

To All Involved in Stand Up to Cancer...thank you for your help...will anyone help us?
An incredible story is waiting to be told about the actual prevention of breast cancer. Not just prevention of recurrence, but actual prevention of the disease before it can begin its destruction. We are starting a revolution; the likes of which has not been seen since “the shot heard round the world”. Five dedicated and determined women, all with their own foundations have united to fire another “shot” and have collaborated to become “Champions of the Pink Vaccine”. Four breast cancer survivors and one world- known breast cancer surgeon are taking back the color Pink and using it for what it was intended to be “Prevention”. Our cause: getting funding for The Pink Vaccine!
The Pink Vaccine is the first ever preventative vaccine for breast cancer developed by Dr. Vincent Tuohy of the Cleveland Clinic. It is 100% effective in preventing breast cancer in mice. Even mice bred for a high incidence of breast cancer failed to develop the disease when given the vaccine. Mice already infected with breast cancer also experience a marked reduction in tumors after being given this vaccine. It’s ready for clinical trials in humans. It is important to note that anything that works in humans first worked in mice. So what’s the problem?…So far no one will fund it.
Here is a video which explains how the vaccine works.

Dr. Tuohy has worked tirelessly and is seeking FDA approval to begin human clinical trials. He appeared before Congress after winning the prestigious Sones Innovation Award in 2010, a validation from the scientific community that his research is valid. The problem lies not in the research but in obtaining the approximately $6 million dollars needed to begin clinical trials. Since an estimated $30 Billion is spent on breast cancer every year in the U.S., $6 Million seems like a proverbial drop in the bucket.
Breast cancer is a big territorial business steeped in politics and greed. Komen and the Avon Foundation have refused to support it. The only logical reason for their position is that it’s not in the best interest of corporate or Pink-America to prevent this costly disease. A major problem is that not enough attention has been given by the media to Dr. Tuohy’s discovery. Please, we need your help to increase awareness of this possible vaccine. October is breast cancer month. We’d love to speak to you and appear together on a newscast to tell Dr. Tuohy’s story. This could be as big a story as the Salk vaccine for polio…we need to stop breast cancer as it approaches epidemic proportions. Will you help…will you tell our story?
Sincerely,
Judy Fitzgerald
