Red Sparrow star Jennifer Lawrence has announced that she will be taking time off her acting career to focus on voluntary work with Represent.Us.

“I’m going to take the next year off,” the Oscar winner told ET.

“I’m going to be working with this organisation I’m a part of, Represent.Us…it’s just trying to get young people engaged politically on a local level. It doesn’t have anything to do with partisan (politics). It’s just anti-corruption and stuff trying to pass state-by-state laws that can help prevent corruption, fix our democracy.”

Lawrence emceed last week’s Unrig the System Summit in New Orleans, which included speakers such as the outspoken Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard; comedians Tig Notaro, Nikki Glaser, and Adam Yenser; Fox News host Steve Hilton; and NASA astronaut Ron Garan.

Ed Helms sent a cheeky video message to participants, stating that he would have loved to have been there, but that Represent.Us must have had “more important things to do with the money” than pay his $500,000 appearance fee. Kerry Washington also sent a video saying she wished she could be with everyone there “focusing on ending corruption in the real Washington, D.C.”
