Today two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash announced the sixth edition of his popular charity soccer match, the Steve Nash Foundation Showdown, to return on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, in New York City.

This year’s Showdown is sponsored by Major League Soccer, Landmark’s Sunshine Cinema, Kappa USA, WAT-AAH!, Jawbone, Vita Coco, ESPN New York, Beck & Score, and Phebe’s Tavern & Grill. Time Warner Cable will televise the event in English and Spanish this summer.

Showdown is a fast-paced, competitive 8-a-side soccer match featuring NBA and professional soccer players, joining forces to support the Steve Nash Foundation’s work to benefit underserved children. 100% of proceeds from the auction and ticket sales to Showdown and Showdown After Hours will benefit the Foundation’s early childhood education platform, Educare. “I’m excited to be back for our 6th Showdown this summer – Showdown helps us bring really critical services to kids, and it’s also such a unique experience as an athlete – playing in the middle of a city, right on top of the fans, and mixing with my soccer heroes – that it’s just a joy to do. Without giving too much away, some of our favorites are coming back, and we’ll have some pretty impressive new players on the pitch. We love the support of folks that come out for it, and hope it just keeps growing.”

The game kicks off at 6:30pm, with the best of two sports worlds competing at Sara D. Roosevelt Park in the Lower East Side (at Chrystie and Stanton Streets). Afterwards, Nash, fellow players, friends and fans will gather for Showdown After Hours, a ticketed cocktail party and live auction (tickets available at stevenash.org/Showdown).

Past Showdowns rosters have included international NBA and professional soccer players Tony Parker (San Antonio Spurs), Jason Kidd (NY Knicks), Chris Bosh (Miami Heat), Grant Hill (Los Angeles Clippers), Brandon Jennings (Milwaukee Bucks), Thierry Henry (New York Red Bulls), Salomon Kalou (Lille), Claudio Reyna (USA World Cup Team), Patrick Vieira (Manchester City), Giuseppe Rossi (Fiorentina) and Javier Zanetti (Inter).

Tickets and VIP packages to Showdown and Showdown After Hours are available now here. Live insights into this year’s lineup, archived materials and prizes (including autographed merchandise) will also be announced through Twitter.

The Steve Nash Foundation is a US and registered Canadian charity dedicated to assisting underserved children in their health, personal development, education and enjoyment of life. The Foundation works to increase access to critical needs resources at home and abroad to ensure that every child has a chance to grow. The Showdown benefits Educare, the Steve Nash Foundation’s platform to provide highest-quality early learning opportunities to low-income children and families.
