Soccer star David Beckham has added his support to the charity Malaria No More by starring in a 30-second TV advertisement calling for the public to help end the threat of malaria in developing countries.

Malaria No More was one of the many charities that benefited from the recent Idol Gives Back TV special, during which the advertisement was first shown.

The world has known how to beat malaria for more than a century, yet it remains the number one killer of children under five in sub-Saharan Africa, claiming more than 1 million lives a year. The disease was eradicated in the United States over 50 years ago, but 40% of the world’s population is still at risk.

Beckham’s clip can be seen on the Malaria No More site, where visitors can also make donations. For even a small $10 donation, the charity can provide a bed net that will protect a mother and infant for 3-5 years.
