Natalie Portman has been named as an ambassador for Free The Children.

“Investing in long term sustainable international development, which includes education, is key to breaking the cycle of poverty,” said the actress. “As a mother and the organization’s newest ambassador, I am grateful to Free The Children for giving me the opportunity to channel my passion and love of children into meaningful action that furthers the education and leadership of young women for years to come. I hope others join me in supporting this important cause.”

From the charity: "Last year, the Academy Award-winning actress teamed up with Free The Children to support the “Power of a Girl” project, which enabled the creation of the Kisaruni All-Girls Secondary Boarding School in the Maasai Mara region of Kenya. Now an official ambassador of Free The Children, Natalie is continuing to channel her passion and love of children into meaningful actions that furthers girls’ education and long-term sustainable development.

“To address the many challenges faced by girls in achieving a secondary education and to ensure girls are able to complete secondary school, Free The Children has identified the need for financial scholarships. Proceeds from sales of Dior’s brand new lipstick Nude “Grège” n°169 (n° 483 in China), specially chosen by Natalie, will be donated to Free The Children in support of scholarships for girls’ secondary education in Kenya. The lipstick launches in Fall 2012. We thank Natalie Portman for giving meaning to beauty."
