The charity for underprivileged children founded by Colombian pop star Shakira is to open its sixth special school in the singer’s native country.
The singer established Pies Descalzos in 1995 to improve education, nutrition, and the lives of the thousands of displaced children living in perilous conditions because of the violent internal conflict in Colombia
“We are going to open our sixth school,” said Shakira. "We provide an education and nutrition for over [6000 kids], in areas that have been devastated by extreme poverty. Colombia [has the second] largest amount of displaced people. We don’t have refugee camps but millions of people lost everything they had and kids don’t have access to an education.
“From the moment I had my first international success at 18, I decided to establish this foundation. It’s taught me a lot and fascinates me – you see first hand how education is such a powerful tool.”

Dear Shakira.
Let me on behalf of the child rescue mission CRM-SL,
a non governmental organisation legally registered with the government of Sierra Leone in West Africa, thank you for your passion and commitment towards the development of underprivileged children around the world. Off course, there are few celebrities around the world doing exactly what you are doing but what matter most is that you are setting the stage for others which makes it interesting for some of us as child right activists.
On this note, we would like to be your partners as well as your fans because your name is sounding loud and clear in our country sierra leone even though many of us have not seen you in person.
For sure, your school project is one with millions of thanks as it is in the right direction.
however the mission of the Child rescue mission CRM-SL is to rescue young marginalised persons from extreme poverty who are currently sleeping in slums, market places and other polluted areas in the above country coming from a ten years brutal armed conflict which ended in 2001.
Our aim is to provide decent shelter for the above category with free of cost learning opportunities in different areas for their career development.
Therefore, i would like to invite you to the official launch of this project in Freetown in January 2010.
Kindly feel free to reach us through this email or skype advocate66 any time of the day.
Stay blessed
Sahr Yillia
Founder and director
Child rescue mission CRM-SL.
