Leonardo DiCaprio and Craig Piligian of Pilgrim Films & Television approached Discovery earlier this year with a new reality TV idea. The resulting 13-part series, ‘Eco-Town’, will chronicle the rebuilding of the tornado-ravaged town of Greensburg into a maintainable model of eco-living.
The tornado devastated the small Kansas town of 1500 people, killing 10 and destroying most homes and buildings, including the hospital. Greensburg will be rebuilt to be both ecologically and economically sustainable, safe from any future environmental catastrophe.
DiCaprio will produce Eco-Town through his company, Appian Way, along with Piligian and Discovery Studios. The series will help launch Discovery’s Planet Green channel in first-quarter 2008.
