Sir Roger Moore is celebrating after it was announced that the new Fortnum & Mason store in Dubai will not stock foie gras.

LookToTheStars.org reported last week that the former James Bond actor was urging Emiratis not to be taken in by Fortnum & Mason’s claim to be quintessentially English, when it sells a product that is so vile that it is illegal to produce in the UK.

And it seems the Dubai store has been listening to the actor’s pleas – it has announced the product will not be stocked.

“Fortnum & Mason’s decision not to sell foie gras in Dubai represents a significant step in getting this ‘torture in a tin’ out of all its stores,” said Sir Roger. “The company is tacitly acknowledging that this vile victual has no place in its future plans, and the next logical step would be for Fortnum to make this a companywide policy.”

Birds raised for foie gras are force-fed huge amounts of grain three or four times every day via a metal pipe that is rammed down their throats. Their livers swell to up to 10 times their normal size, resulting in a disease known as “hepatic steatosis”.
