Actress Kirstie Alley ran a special competition through Twitter last week.

The actress asked her fans to tell her why their favorite charity deserved to win cash she wanted to donate. But after struggling to pick a winner, Alley picked two of her fans’ suggestions and awarded each $1000.

The cash went to Soldiers’ Angels, which sends letters to troops in war zones, and SACA, a local food bank in Silverton, Oregon.

“What gets me through tough times is helping someone in more need than me… not hard to find usually,” said Alley.
