British television presenter and actress Cerrie Burnell is supporting UK-based street children charity Happy Child International.

Cerrie is best known for her work as a presenter on the CBeebies channel and was recently named by The Guardian as one of the world’s 100 most inspirational women. Cerrie will help Happy Child, which provides accommodation, food and healthcare to street and at-risk children in Brazil, with fundraising and publicity.

Cerrie Burnell says: "Happy Child is doing invaluable work with some of Brazil’s most vulnerable children. I have spent time in the country and experienced both its charms and challenges. Watching children living on the streets and struggling to feed and protect themselves is incredibly difficult.

"I am therefore delighted to support this wonderful charity as they continue their urgent and important work to rescue and rehabilitate children and give them back a chance for their future."

Sarah de Carvalho, Chief Executive of Happy Child, says: “Cerrie is a well respected and recognisable role model and public figure. We are grateful to have her support and excited about working further with her.”

Happy Child was founded in 1993 and runs care homes and other facilities for street and at risk children in the Brazilian cities of Belo Horizonte and Recife. In 18 years the charity has helped 8,500 children.
