Taste of the NFL, a non-profit organization dedicated to kicking hunger in America, announces that Soul Asylum will perform live at its 22nd annual hunger relief event on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the New Orleans Convention Center.

The performance is sponsored by American Family Insurance.

Taste of the NFL is a strolling food and wine event that pairs high-profile chefs from each NFL team city with current and former NFL players, offering guests the opportunity to sample fine cuisine, meet nationally recognized chefs and rub elbows with NFL all-stars. Proceeds benefit hunger relief in NFL markets nationwide.

Soul Asylum lead singer and frontman Dave Pirner currently resides in New Orleans. “Too many people in my community go to bed hungry, especially children,” says Pirner. “We are honored to perform at Taste of the NFL to help raise funds and awareness for hunger relief in New Orleans and across the country.”

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Soul Asylum’s triple-platinum album Grave Dancers Union, which features their Grammy Award-winning singles “Runaway Train.”

“Taking part in this weekend’s events is the ultimate dream for the teams and their fans,” said Telisa Yancy, advertising director for American Family Insurance. “Yet, the dream for too many people is getting enough to eat. American family is proud to sponsor Soul Asylum’s performance as a centerpiece of Taste of the NFL’s hunger relief efforts.”

Soul Asylum will hit the stage at approximately 10:00 p.m., following the food and wine sampling portion of the evening, which includes 37 food stations featuring signature dishes from the nation’s top chefs, E & J Gallo wine pairings, NFL players, alumni and Hall-of-Famers.

Additional highlights of this year’s “Party with a Purpose” include special appearances by the newly-crowned Miss America, Mallory Hagan; Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods host and renowned chef Andrew Zimmern; and stars from TLC’s Cake Boss. There is also a silent auction with unique sports memorabilia, exciting travel opportunities, culinary packages and more. For more information and tickets, visit www.TasteoftheNFL.com.

The 2013 event is made possible through the generosity of Taste of the NFL partners including E & J Gallo, Party America, Uptown Network and American Family Insurance. Additional supporting sponsors include the Louisiana Seafood Council, Tabasco, Pernod Ricard and Crescent Crown Distributing. For those who can’t make it to the event but still want to support Taste of the NFL’s mission to kick hunger, they are encouraged to log on to www.KickHungerChallenge.com and make a donation in the name of their favorite NFL team.

Proceeds from the Kick Hunger Challenge proceeds go directly to food banks in NFL team cities.
