Katherine Heigl, Mandy Moore and Alicia Silverstone were some of the celebrities at the star-studded opening of Australian designer Peter Alexander’s flagship L.A. store on Wednesday night.

The puppy-themed event – which benefited animal rescue shelters Hearts United for Rescue and Kinder4Rescue – also launched Alexander’s new PJ line, which will also benefit the animal shelters.

“Peter Alexander is an animal advocate and big on animal rescue,” Heigl told ET Online. “He approached me about this line to make it not only about his designs and who he is as a designer, but also who he is as an animal rescuer and advocate. He’s donating all of the proceeds from the pajama line to shelters that I work with a lot. It’s huge… there’s always another animal to be saved, but this will help so many.”

Alicia Silverstone – who recently joined a campaign to move elephants from Los Angeles Zoo to a massive sanctuary in the northern San Fernando Valley – also appreciated Alexander’s commitment to animals.

“All my dogs are rescued,” she said. “[Peter is] donating so much energy and money to rescue organizations.”
