Setting trends is nothing new for creative director and style icon Nicole Richie. This year, she will inspire more than just fashion through her involvement with QVC Presents FFANY Shoes on Sale. Richie is scheduled to appear in both print and television public service announcements supporting the 19th annual breast cancer fundraising event.

The charitable shoe sale, which is scheduled to be broadcast live on QVC Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 5 to 8 PM (ET), unites multimedia retailer QVC with the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY). Together, the two organizations have donated more than $38 million to the cause. This year, over 90,000 pairs of shoes, from more than 80 brands, will be sold at half the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, with net proceeds benefiting breast cancer research and education institutions.

“Women everywhere are affected by breast cancer and the battle to fight this disease is more important than ever,” said Richie. “Having the opportunity to use fashion as one of my contributions in this battle is extremely rewarding.”

“Nicole is already an inspiration in the world of fashion, but her role in this event will make her an inspiration on a greater level,” said Claire Watts, CEO, QVC U.S. “Nicole’s passion for the cause will surely motivate women to get involved in this issue of utmost importance.”

“Putting a face to our public service announcements is essential to our efforts because it helps connect people to the cause,” said Joe Moore, FFANY’s president and CEO. “Nicole is passionate about so many things, and I am confident that her eagerness to support this cause will motivate others as well.”

Beneficiaries for the 2012 QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” event include: The Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, The John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John’s Health Center, The Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, The Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, The University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Breast Oncology Program, The University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

A shoe from Richie’s designer line, House of Harlow 1960, is scheduled to be available for purchase during QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale.”
