Two of the greatest competitors in tennis history will play a charity exhibition match on Saturday, July 27, at Cedar Creek Racquet Club in Cashiers, NC.

Recently retired superstar and new Cashiers homeowner Andy Roddick takes the court against good friend and fellow superstar Jim Courier in “The United Community Bank Mountain Challenge.” The Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with McKee Properties is hosting the event and proceeds will benefit the new non-profit organization Mountain Youth Charities.

The marquee match-up brings together players who have been ranked No. 1 in the world.

Roddick held that position following his victory in the 2003 U.S. Open, one of 32 ATP titles in his career. Courier, meanwhile, was the world’s No. 1 player four times in the 1990s. He totaled 23 ATP victories, including four Grand Slam titles.

“The UCB Mountain Challenge Charity Tennis Exhibition” will also include two preliminary matches. The first is a battle between top-ranked juniors Thai Kwiatkowski of Charlotte, NC and Korey Lovett of Brevard, NC and the second is a doubles match pairing the winners of a local pro-am versus Roddick & Courier.

The event will also feature a gala dinner on Friday evening, July 26 hosted by Roddick and Courier. This will be held in Cashiers at Lonesome Valley’s famed restaurant Canyon Kitchen and will feature crowd pleasing entertainment, a celebrity chef catered dinner, and fundraising activities… a don’t miss event for the times.

“This is exciting for our club and the Cashiers community,” said Scott Handback, general manager of Cedar Creek Racquet Club. “We’re thrilled to provide folks in the Carolinas and Georgia with a rare chance to see two of the world’s best tennis players compete in such a scenic mountain setting.”

Grounds open at 9 am on Saturday, July 27. The VIP breakfast and the junior match begin at 10 am, followed by Roddick and Courier facing the pro-am doubles champs at 11 am. The main event, pitting Roddick versus Courier, is at 11:30 am.

“The United Community Bank Mountain Challenge Charity Tennis Exhibition” will be a benefit to create and enhance much needed youth programs in the Cashiers area. The goal is to establish long-term programs for all kids in this area to have opportunities that might not otherwise be available to them. “Mountain Youth Charities” is the organization that will manage the funding for the children’s needs.
