On Friday afternoon, Secret Life of the American Teenager star Renee Olstead teamed up with peta2 — PETA's youth division — for a fun-filled event to benefit the homeless animals in Los Angeles Animal Services’ shelters.

Kids who arrived at PETA’s Bob Barker Building with old blankets, towels, leashes, collars, or other supplies had the opportunity to meet some of Hollywood’s hottest and kindest young stars — including Olstead’s co-star Camille Winbrush, reality star Courtney Stodden, singer Mika Newton, and others — as they participated in fun activities, learned about other ways to help homeless animals, and more.

“peta2 is constantly hearing from kids and teenagers who are eager to help animals but don’t always know where to start,” says peta2 Director Marta Holmberg. “The good news is, it’s easy for everyone to make a difference for animals — you can volunteer at a local animal shelter, adopt a homeless dog or cat, encourage everyone to spay and neuter their animal companions, and so much more.”

Every year in the U.S., more than 6 to 8 million lost, abandoned, or unwanted dogs and cats enter animal shelters, and more than half of them have to be euthanized because there simply aren’t enough good homes for them. To help, peta2 encourages all families to spay and neuter their dogs and cats (the only way to stop the companion-animal overpopulation crisis at its roots) and always adopt dogs and cats from animal shelters, rather than buying them from breeders and pet stores, which contribute to the problem.
