Academy Award winner Halle Berry has revealed how she was inspired to become a major spokesperson for women’s cancer causes after discovering her obstetrician’s wife was battling breast cancer.

Berry – who is an Ambassador for the Calloway Golf Foundation Women’s Cancer Initiative – watched her doctor, Bobby Katz, and his wife battle heroically with the stresses of cancer while he guided the actress through her pregnancy.

“Watching them go through their struggle made me respect the resilience of those who are suffering,” said Berry, who went on to take part in the 15th annual Entertainment Industry Foundation Run/Walk for Women in Los Angeles in May.

The Callaway Golf Foundation Women's Cancer Initiative was established through $2 million of donations to the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Programs. The initiative aims to fast-track breakthrough treatments and tests at leading cancer institutions to beat women’s cancer.
