Nearly 16 million children face hunger in the United States, and the federal nutrition and feeding programs that support them expire at the end of the month. Without reauthorization of these existing programs, children from low-income households may no longer have access to regular meals.

On Thursday, September 10 at 4pm ET, Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief organization, will host a Tele-Town Hall to educate its supporters on the urgency of Child Nutrition Reauthorization and provide practical steps to take action. Child hunger advocates, policymakers and the general public are all invited to participate in the town hall. Listeners will hear from anti-hunger policy experts, and will be able to ask live questions of special guest Chef Mario Batali.

Batali is an award-winning chef and long-time advocate of hunger relief. As a member of Feeding America’s Entertainment Council, Batali has volunteered and witnessed the reality of hunger first-hand.

During the Tele-Town Hall, Batali will speak about his passion in the fight to end hunger and discuss ideas on how we can work together to strengthen child nutrition programs and influence Congress’ support.

Feeding America will also be collecting questions via Twitter in advance of the town hall for possible inclusion in the live Q&A. Questions can be tweeted to @FeedingAmerica with the hashtags #HungerActionMonth and #TownHall for a chance to have them answered by Batali.

The reauthorization coincides with Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month, which is a month-long national awareness campaign to encourage hunger relief in the United States. Feeding America leads the movement every September and provides a number of ways for supporters to get involved.
