Hollywood’s powerhouse couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt lent their support to the refugees in Sarajevo, Bosnia, during their visit to the Balkan country last Monday.

The couple successfully stayed out of the spotlight after the public was first made aware of their surprise arrival by Bosnian border police.

“They are in Bosnia to visit the sites run by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees,” (UNHCR) representative Aida Prljaca announced early last week.

Jolie and Pitt’s low key visit intended to call attention to the continued struggle of Bosnia’s refugees, long after their civil war ended in 1995. Their efforts shed light on the tragic outcome of some 117,000 refugees, who have been pushed out of their homes and villages and displaced to refugee centers all over the country.

Jolie, the UNHCR ambassador since 2001, has honorably made it her mission to help allow the vast majority of these individuals, living in refugee centers or in temporary rented housing situations, to be able to one day return home.

Jolie flew into Sarajevo after taking a break from filming The Tourist in Italy with Johnny Depp and director, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.
