Jackie Chan marked his appearance at the Shanghai World Expo last week by donating 1 million RMB (US$148,000) to victims of a recent disaster in China.

“Due to the recent mudslide in Zhouqu, China, I went with my Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation to donate 1 million RMB and sing a song of encouragement," wrote the star. “Unlike the Yushu earthquake disaster, this time I couldn’t fly into the city and I couldn’t drive either, so there was no way to get there. Instead I’m donating money first to see if I can help later on. I will try my best to go there when I can.”

The deadly mudslide struck on August 8, following heavy rain. Over 1000 people died in the disaster.
