The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation has released its 2012 holiday gift guide featuring over 70 items for individuals living with paralysis and their caregivers.

Available on the Reeve Foundation’s website at www.ChristopherReeve.org/2012GiftGuide, the fifth annual gift guide features products in eleven categories, the most categories to date. Items are selected by suggestions from the paralysis community, those living with spinal cord injuries, professionals, and general searches, based on budget, usability, uniqueness, interests, and levels of injury, and provide practical, creative gift ideas to benefit people with spinal cord injury, their families and caregivers.

“In our fifth year creating this gift guide, we have included more products specifically made for those living with paralysis, as well as items that families, caregivers and our broader community members find extremely helpful,” says Rob Gerth, Director of Digital Media for the Reeve Foundation. “We’ve also added more ‘Reeve Reviews’ by those living with paralysis to add color commentary to the gifts. There is something for everyone, including kids, in a range of categories from fashion gifts to healthy living items.”

The gift guide provides a wide range of gift ideas for people living with paralysis, from kitchen appliances and wheelchair accessories to technology and entertainment. New categories this year include bath and beauty, travel and regional activities, and returning favorites.

Some examples from the 2012 Reeve Foundation Holiday Gift Guide for Individuals Living with Paralysis include:

  • uDrink – The uDrink provides more independence and security of not dropping or spilling a drink for those living with limited hand dexterity or no hand strength. Easily attachable to any size bottle, can, or cup, the uDrink hook and loop strap adjust to the size of the item.
  • Eye/Sinus Pac – The Eye Sinus Pack from Grampa’s Garden is the perfect gift of comfort! It can be warmed in the microwave to provide relief from congestion, eye strain, or headaches. When used as a cold pack, it helps reduce swelling around the eyes. Available in different colors and patterns, this is a must have for anyone in need of a bit of relaxation.
  • Wheel Comfort Foot Plates – Protect bare feet with this Wheel Comfort Foot Plate. The padded footplate has several important functions – it helps maintain foot angle and placement, helps maintain balance, and protects feet. It is also easy to use and transport.
  • GoPro HD Camera – Shoot any video hands-free with this GoPro HD Hero camera. This camera can attach onto your gear and film any adventure. It is shockproof, waterproof, and “built to take a beating.”
  • Rapid Reflex – This simple card game builds listening & attention skills, directional & color concepts, vocabulary, visual discrimination, and hand-eye coordination. Rapid Reflex is all about connecting your brain and can be played anywhere at any time.
  • Velcro Shirts – Thanks to The Cover Up Shop, wearing a button down shirt is easier than ever. Instead of fussing with small buttons, Velcro is placed discreetly under the front of the shirt and behind the cuffs to eliminate all struggles with buttons.

Some of the featured vendors also offer gifts that give back in which portions of the proceeds are donated to the Reeve Foundation. Please note the Reeve Foundation has not endorsed or tested all of these products.

In addition, through December 5, one-of-a-kind celebrity experiences, gifts and packages are being featured in the Reeve Foundation charity auction at www.CharityBuzz.com/Reeve2012.

More than one million people in the U.S. are living with some form of paralysis due to spinal cord injury.
