With her modesty preserved only by strategically placed crimson chilli peppers, Rosanna Davison shows off her sizzling physique in a brand-new ad campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that proclaims, “Vegans Are Red Hot”.

The former Miss World, who recently received a degree in biomedicine and naturopathic nutrition, is spreading the word that one of the best ways to stay healthy – and slim – is to go vegan.

“I’ve never felt as fit and healthy as I do as a vegan”, Davison says. “Vegan meals aren’t just delicious – they’re free of animal fat and cholesterol, and they’re packed with vitamins. Going vegan is the best way to keep your heart healthy and your body looking great!”

In addition to being, on average, slimmer than meat-eaters are, vegans are less prone to cancer, heart disease, strokes and diabetes. Their carbon footprint is also lighter, as the meat industry is a leading cause of the greenhouse-gas emissions that contribute to climate change. And of course, each vegan saves up to 100 animals a year from extreme suffering on factory farms, in abattoirs and on the decks of fishing boats.

This isn’t Davison’s first time teaming up with PETA. Earlier this summer, she urged the Irish Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney, to stop Ireland’s live export of animals to Libya, and in 2011, she hit the streets of Dublin wearing a different set of veggies – a mini-dress made out of lettuce leaves – to promote meat-free eating.

She is part of a growing list of celebrities – including Pamela Anderson, Alicia Silverstone, Casey Affleck, Paul McCartney, Joaquin Phoenix, John Bishop and Emily Deschanel – who have teamed up with PETA and its affiliates to promote vegetarian and vegan eating.

Davison is to grace the pages of Playboy US out on 16 August.
