British ESA astronaut and Prince's Trust ambassador Tim Peake ran the London Marathon from space, to raise awareness of the Trust, in just 3 hours 35 minutes!

He started his run at 10am on Sunday 24 April, the same time that the 37,000+ runners set off from Greenwich to cover the famous marathon distance on Earth.

To combat weightlessness, Tim wore a harness that tethered him to the treadmill as he ran, while watching the HD video of the iconic London course on the big screen in front of the treadmill.

“It was an incredible experience to take part in such a prestigious event whilst orbiting the planet on the International Space Station and I’m hugely grateful to everyone at the European Space Agency and NASA who made that happen,” said Tim. “And last but not least, I was truly proud to be part of #TeamAstronaut in support of The Prince’s Trust and to help raise awareness for the great work that they do.”

Tim was supported by the 91 #TeamAstronaut runners who were fundraising for the Prince’s Trust, including UK Space Agency and European Space Agency runners.

#TeamAstronaut member Tyrone Brennand, 29, from London, ran the Virgin Money London Marathon as Tim Peake’s ‘shadow runner’ on the streets of London. He set up his personal training business Be The Fittest with the Trust’s help. Since then, his business has thrived and he has also become a Young Ambassador.

He finished the race in 4 hours 3 minutes and one of the first things he did upon completing the race was to congratulate Tim for doing so well in his run!
