Actor Will Smith hit South Miami on Monday, November 17, for a charity event premiere of his new film, “Seven Pounds.”

Hundreds of people began lining up early in hopes of catching a glimpse of Smith before the red carpet gala began at 7:00 p.m. at the Shops of Sunset Place.

“I’m at a point in my life where I want all of the work that I do to mean something,” said Smith, “I want there to be ideas and concepts and lessons about things that I believe in.”

In “Seven Pounds,” Will Smith plays Ben Thomas, a man who’s suffered a terrible tragedy and sets out to redeem himself by changing the lives of seven people. Guests were asked to bring canned food to gain entry into the event, and true to character, Smith and co-star Rosario Dawson brought 300 turkeys to give out. All proceeds benefit the Florida Marlins Community Foundation.

Dawson, who plays one of the strangers Smith’s character chose to help, is a big fan of Smith’s both on and off the set. “I love him so much, he’s so amazing,” she said. “He’s very particular about… ’I’m going to do things that I’m passionate about and care about and I never want to find myself in a situation where I don’t want to be there.’”

“Seven Pounds” is set to hit theaters in the US on December 19, 2008.
