Metallica rockers Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield are planning a massive rock concert to raise funds for a planned museum exhibit after officials pulled their support.

The Marin Rocks exhibition was to celebrate Marin, California’s, unique musical heritage. But the exhibition was cancelled after a suitable venue could not be agreed upon.

Speaking in a video screened at the Marin History Museum’s gala on Saturday night at the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center, Hetfield announced his plans to stage a concert in September to raise funds so that the exhibition could go ahead.

“Metallica very much supports the ‘Marin Rocks’ project, and especially the educational programs to be offered for our youth,” said Merry Alberigi, the Marin History Museum’s executive director. “They have kids in school here in Marin County and they want to give back. It’s a fabulous gift from them to the community.”

Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction is also expected to take part in the concert.
