Beyoncé has confirmed that the money she made for a performance for Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi in 2009 was donated to charity.

Following Nelly Furtado's announcement that she is donating the $1 million paid for a similar performance to charity, other stars such as Beyoncé came under the spotlight to do the same.

In an email to The Huffington Post, Beyoncé’s spokesperson – Yvette Noel-Schure – had this to say:

“All monies paid to Beyoncé for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year’s Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti, over a year ago. Once it became known that the third party promoter was linked to the Qaddafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause.”

A spokesperson for the Clinton Foundation has confirmed that the donation was made to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.
