17 nations and 550 competitors will take part in this years’ games which hopes to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for all who serve their country.

At the reception The Prince said:

“I know many of you have struggled over the years, but you are here now and you have this amazing opportunity in front of you to share with your family and friends.”

6-year-old Maya, then took to the stage to read out her letter saying, ‘Thank you so much to Prince Harry and Help for Heroes for helping my mummy and her friends’. Maya said she was incredibly proud of her mother Michelle, who is one of the 90 competitors selected to take part in Toronto 2017. Training for the event will continue across the UK in recovery centres and external venues as part of the Help for Heroes Sports Recovery Programme.

Before departing, Prince Harry said this year the games had a special focus on celebrating the support of families and friends.

“You have made an incredible journey to this point – you have been defiant and courageous. Do not forget your ability to inspire others.”
