On Sunday, Oscar winner Anjelica Huston will host a special 70th birthday celebration for PETA President Ingrid Newkirk at vegan chef Matthew Kenney’s foodie paradise, Plant Food + Wine.

When: Sunday, June 30, 2 p.m.
Where: Plant Food + Wine, 1009 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice

In addition to vegan hors d’œuvres, birthday cake, and cocktails, the evening will feature appearances by some of PETA’s celebrity pals — including Jillian Michaels and Charo, who narrated a moving video against bullfighting for the group.

“Ingrid has spent her life as a maverick, inspiring people the world over to defend the most vulnerable among us,” says Huston. “I am proud to be an honorary director of this organization, because PETA gets results.”

Newkirk — who was recently profiled by the Los Angeles Times and is the subject of the HBO documentary I Am an Animal — founded PETA in 1980, when no one knew what a vegan was. She started a movement that has changed society’s attitudes toward animals and has won a tidal wave of landmark victories, including the end of car-crash tests on animals, the closure of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus after 146 years, fur-free policies enacted by almost every major designer, and bans on animal testing by nearly 4,000 personal-care product companies.
