Producers of Seasame Street are to use one of the show’s most popular characters to educate families about surviving the current economic crisis.

Elmo – the cute and fuzzy red monster performed by Kevin Clash – will be joined by Al Roker and Deborah Roberts on the new show, which will be aimed at families with children aged 2 to 8 and will air on PBS stations in America on September 9.

Producers of the show said it will be directed at both parents and children in families where someone is dealing with a job loss or the income is much less than it was.
