Olivia Newton-John is set to perform at an AFL football match in Australia to raise money for charity later this month.

The Aussie legend will sing three songs prior to the match between Melbourne and Carlton at the MCG on May 27 to raise money for her Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre. Due to open in 2012, the facility needs $10 million in public donations to aid its completion. $15 million has already been raised since 2003. Donations will be taken on the night of the match.

“I’m incredibly excited at the opportunity to perform in front of a big crowd in my home town of Melbourne and urge all footy fans to come along and give generously so we can now help complete the O,” said Olivia. "I also want to acknowledge the Melbourne Football Club and especially president Jim Stynes for all their tremendous support.

“Jim has fought an extraordinary personal battle of his own and his story is a great inspiration and another reason why this project is so dear to my heart.”

Olivia has recently released a cookbook called LivWise to help raise funds for the centre, According to the publishers, "The recipes were created in her own kitchen along with recipes contributed by friends and chefs at her Australian health retreat, Gaia. In Livwise, Olivia explains her belief in the importance of eating a healthy diet in order to maintain wellness and balance.

“The recipes are simple, wholesome and very tasty – from delicious salads and snacks to hearty mains and guilt-free desserts, all offering a perfect balance of flavour, goodness and vitality. There are also lots of vegetarian friendly recipes and several suitable for people with different types of dietary restrictions.

“As a breast cancer survivor (or cancer thriver as she prefers), Olivia is raising funds for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne and her royalties from the sale of Livwise will go to the centre.”

The book can be ordered here.
