Nickelback, in partnership with Roadrunner Records and United Way Worldwide, have announced that the band will donate a quarter to United Way education programs for every person who takes United Way’s pledge between now and December 31, 2011 to become a volunteer reader, tutor or mentor for education.

People can take the pledge at liveunited.org/nickelback.

“We’re proud to support United Way’s effort to get more volunteers for education and to reduce dropout rates,” commented Chad Kroeger of Nickelback. “We look forward to the halftime show and think Detroit is a great place to kick off our ‘Nickelback Gives a Quarter Back’ campaign.”

“Through our research with everyday people, we found that 91 percent of Americans think that communities should take greater responsibility for what’s happening with our children,” said Tracey Holmes, NFL partnership director at United Way Worldwide. “We thank Nickelback for helping us to reach new audiences and their extensive fan base with our message.”

Multi-platinum recording artist Nickelback is teaming up with United Way and the National Football League for the 13th annual United Way Thanksgiving Halftime Show during the first game of the NFL’s tripleheader when the Detroit Lions host the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, November 24 at 12:30 PM ET on FOX. Fittingly, the band will perform their new single, “When We Stand Together.” United Way’s message is for people to LIVE UNITED to make a difference.
