Meryl Streep has donated $10,000 to a charter school in the Rhode Island city of Central Falls.

The Oscar winner was told about the plight of the school, which faced closure, by fellow Oscar nominee Viola Davis.

According to an Press Association report, Angelo Garcia – founder of the Segue Institute for Learning – said a check from the Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts, a charity founded by Streep and her husband, arrived with a note saying it was on behalf of actress Davis, who grew up in Central Falls.

The Segue Institute for Learning serves students in grades 6th to 8th from the City of Central Falls. The school was founded and created in 2006, and recognizes its students as “AT PROMISE” versus being considered “AT RISK”.
