As part of the International Women’s Day commemoration, UN Women is launching a new initiative aimed at leveraging the arts for gender equality – HeForShe Arts Week.

The launch event will take place at the Public Theater (425 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10003), an inaugural partner, and bring together two UN Goodwill Ambassadors, Emma Watson (UN Women) and Forest Whitaker (UNESCO & UN Advocate on the Sustainable Development Goals) for a lively conversation on gender equality and women’s rights.

Chirlane McCray, First Lady of New York City, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women and Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater will speak at the event.

The HeForShe Arts Week will run from March 8-15, 2016, during which time partner institutions, throughout the city of New York will highlight efforts towards gender equality and women’s rights, and support UN Women’s work by donating a percentage of proceeds.
