Fabulously wealthy from his career in Pink Floyd as guitarist and vocalist, Gilmour has been quick to share his fortune for the greater good, and he actively encourages other celebrities to do the same.

Most notably, Gilmour sold his London home to Earl Spencer for £3.6m in 2003 and handed the cash straight to Crisis, a British charity supporting the homeless.

In the run-up to releasing the triple-platinum album The Division Bell in 1994, the Pink Floyd members could not agree upon a title. Author Douglas Adams offered to tell Gilmour his title if Gilmour gave £25,000 to Save the Rhino. Gilmour consented, and Adams’ title was the one the band used.
