Milk+Bookies has announced that they will host their Third Annual Story Time Celebration on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

Milk+Bookies is a nationwide charitable organization that inspires children to give back, using books as its currency. The organization facilitates opportunities for children to raise book donations and give back by providing them the tools to host small events nationwide. Event title sponsors include DreamWorks Animation, Scholastic, Inc., BAMA Works, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), John W. Carson Foundation, Marc Jacobs Bookmarc and Amazon Publishing.

Families will enjoy a fun-filled day to include celebrity supporters Chris Pine, Dave Grohl, DJ Lance Rock, Eric Stonestreet and Julie Bowen reading their favorite children’s stories; story-inspired arts & crafts lead by little junebugs; photo flipbooks provided by Now Flip This; milkshakes provided by McConnell’s Fine Ice Cream and cookies provided by Isabella’s Cookie Company who have partnered with the organization to create the official Milk + Bookies cookie which will be available at Whole Foods locations throughout the west-coast beginning April 2012.

In addition there will be a giant “bookstore” where families can select books donated by Scholastic, Inc. inscribe them and donate them, through Milk + Bookies, to organizations including School on Wheels, Ready Set Read, Boys and Girls Clubs and LA family housing. Last year’s celebration raised 3,000 books for foster care organizations Children’s Bureau and Westside Children’s Center.

“We are so excited to host Milk + Bookies Story Time Celebration for the third consecutive year. This year we will focus on “giving” as it is an important issue and a core value of the organization," says Executive Director Meredith Alexander. “Books help enrich children’s lives, stimulate their imaginations and open their worlds to new and exciting adventures, which is why we are so proud to hold this event year after year and give books to children who do not have access to their own. We are especially thankful for our ongoing partnership with Scholastic, Inc. as they have been instrumental in helping us achieve our mission.”

This year’s Honorary Committee includes Dave Grohl, DJ Lance Rock, Jack Black, Jennie Garth, Jennifer Garner, J.J. Abrams, Jonah Hill, Julie Bowen, Marlon Wayans, Rainn Wilson and Sarah Chalke. The executive board includes Alexandra Carter, Heidi Fugeman Lindelof, Laura Zimmerman and Todd Putman lead by Executive Director Meredith Alexander. Together this dynamic team hopes to inspire a new generation to give back and make the world a better place.
