Michael Phelps Foundation

The Michael Phelps Foundation works to promote healthy and active lives, especially for children, primarily by expanding their opportunities in the sport of swimming.

Olympic Gold medalist Michael Phelps established the Foundation with the $1 million dollar bonus he received from long-time partner Speedo® for winning eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Games.

The Michael Phelps Foundation offers three programs: im, Level Field Fund-Swimming and Caps-for-a-Cause.

The Michael Phelps Foundation’s signature program, im, was developed in partnership with Michael Phelps Swim School and KidsHealth.Org, and is named after Michael’s signature event, the Individual Medley, while also abbreviating the self-affirming term “I am.”

Launched in 2010, the im program is now offered at Boys & Girls Clubs of America nationally and Special Olympics teams internationally.

In addition to the im program, the Michael Phelps Foundation helped establish Level Field Fund-Swimming, a grant giving program offering financial assistance to talented swimmers in need, and Caps-for-a-Cause, which helps non-profits dedicated to growing the sport of swimming a swim cap signed by Michael Phelps to be used in their fundraising auctions.
