Debbie Allen is an American actress, dancer and choreographer. In 2008, she became a member of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
Debbie joined with Norman Nixon in 2001 to found The Debbie Allen Dance Academy, (DADA), to provide the young people of the Greater Los Angeles Area a place where they could learn the language of dance. (Ms. Allen had sent her own daughter away to train at the Kirov Ballet at the ripe age of 13 because there was no “Academy” which offered the kind of training she needed.)
As it took 8 months for DADA to get its non-profit status, Debbie Allen and Norman Nixon footed the entire deficit bill for that first year.
