Amanda Holden is patron for the Born Free Foundation, and ran the 2008 London marathon to raise money for them. According to the Foundation’s website, Holden launched straight into work with Born Free in 2002 "by accompanying seven rescued tigers to a new Born Free sanctuary in India. With various stories to tell, these tigers had endured misery in horrific zoos in Belgium, an Italian circus, or even a pet shop in Spain.

From India, Amanda later travelled with Born Free to Romania to investigate the plight of a lioness called Achee, kept in the car-park of the Cypriot Consulate. Achee was rescued and taken to Born Free’s Big Cat Rescue Centre at Shamwari Wildlife Reserve. “It broke my heart to see her suffering but it was wonderful to welcome Achee to her new life in South Africa”.

Always truly dedicated to the animals, Amanda filmed a very special programme with Born Free, Really Wild at Heart, telling the story of three lions held captive in a French circus and their new lives of freedom at Shamwari."

She has given a voice recording to Sophie's Gift, a special voice library of famous voices to help coma patients wake up.
