Anne Douglas Center for Women

The Anne Douglas Center is the Los Angeles Mission’s outreach and rehabilitation facility for women. Her own experience of dire poverty during World War II in Europe inspired Mrs. Douglas’s generosity and long-standing passion to help women in similar situations. She was determined to create a women’s program with the impact and outreach of the Mission’s existing programs for men. In recognition of her efforts, Mrs. Douglas received the “Woman of the Year” award from Friendly House, the oldest women’s recovery program in the United States.

The Anne Douglas Center provides in-house rehabilitation programs for women who have fallen on bad times. They are provided with shelter, meals, and clothing, and also undergo a vital career-skills development process, as well as relationship rehabilitation and spiritual counseling. All this enables them to become independently functioning members of society and more often than not return to their children and families.
